Montessori School on Camp Bowie
building strong roots
“The greatest gift we can give our children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence.”
— Maria Montessori
Our Programs
-
Toddlers
Ages 18 months to 3 years
This environment is warm and nurturing. The children are exposed to activities rich in language and movement. Each activity is well thought out and shown individually to the child. This is where the children develop a positive attitude towards learning and a good self-image.
-
Primary
Ages 3 to 6 years
The environment consists of five main areas: Practical life, sensorial, language, math, and cultural studies (including geography and science). Art and Music are incorporated into the daily program. Children are given individual lessons by the teacher. They are then free to choose from the work that has been shown to them.
-
Before and After Care
Timings: 7:30 - 8:45 am. and 2:15 - 6:00 p.m.
The before and after school care is provided in the Montessori environment. This is a more relaxed time where some children nap and others socialize in a calm, quiet atmosphere. On nice days, they spend time outside on the playground.
-
Enrichment Programs
The children are involved in art, music and drama as an integral part of the Montessori curriculum. They prepare and present an annual program in one of these areas. We offer enrichment programs including, French, Yoga, Spanish, seasonal celebrations, field trips and opportunities for parent involvement.
Why Montessori?
What is Montessori?
Dr. Montessori (1870-1952) was a physician and educator in Italy. She worked with preschool age children, studied their true nature and observed the way the children learned. She discovered that the child from 0-6 years old is gifted with an absorbent mind. Impressions from the child’s environment did not merely enter his or her mind, they formed it. With this discovery she created teaching materials and established a teaching method that is known as “The Montessori Method.”
What is our curriculum?
Keeping the Montessori Method in mind, the environment at the Montessori School on Camp Bowie is warm and nurturing. The curriculum is carefully prepared to encourage mental and physical development. It is rich in language, mathematics, science, music and art. It provides activities that enhance concentration and self-discipline. It teaches the child the social skills needed to exist as an individual in harmony with his peers. The child learns to view him or herself as part of the whole community and thus becomes a self confident and responsible individual.
Our training and experience
The lead teachers, known as Montessori Guides, are trained and certified by recognized Montessori institutes. MSCB was established by Saulet Kureshy in 1995 and has been continually operated by her family since it opened. Our lead teacher received her certification from a renowned teacher who was trained by Maria Montessori. All staff and administration undergo training and professional development throughout the year.
What is our admissions process?
We encourage all interested parents to call the office and set up a time to observe the Montessori environment and tour the school. After the application and registration fee are turned in, an interview with the parent and child is set up with the Director or teacher.
